Drummoyne downsizers bought an original-condition waterfront home for $4.67 million at auction on Saturday, outbidding 13 other interested buyers for the block they plan to rebuild on.
The four-bedroom house at 32 The Esplanade was on the market for the first time in 50 years, having last traded for $28,000 as an empty block in 1972.
The property was one of 674 homes scheduled to go to under the hammer in Sydney on Saturday. By evening, Domain Group recorded a preliminary clearance rate of $60.1 per cent from 454 reported results, while 128 auctions were withdrawn. Withdrawn auctions are counted as unsold properties when calculating the clearance rate.

Last week’s Sydney auction clearance rate was 61%. There were 696 properties scheduled for sale, 283 properties were sold, and 129 properties were withdrawn.
