16/07 Sydney Auction News | Auction market is losing confidence, but rent is keeping rising.

Auction clearance rates in Australia held steady over the weekend, with the number of properties listed for auction rising over the weekend as most school holidays are now over.

There were 1,442 properties listed for sale last Saturday in Australia, similar to the 1,355 properties the week before last Saturday, but still much lower than the same week last year.

With the media full of negative messages and the spectre of rising interest rates faster than many expected, buyers remain cautious and vendors are also losing confidence fast, with auctions being cancelled or withdrawn from sale.

There are total of 597 properties listed for auction this weekend and 112 properties were withdrawn from sale.

Realestate.com.au reported that there were 1,121 private sales in New South Wales over the last week, the number is similar to 1,158 private sales last week. But, of course, many off-market Sydney property sales would not have been reported.

The clearance rate for houses was 63.2%, with units lower this weekend at 48.5%.
